I don’t quite know why, but I was quite thrilled to see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. It’s not as if it was the first time I’d seen these iconic structures.
It was the first time I’d actually been on the Harbour Bridge, though. Next time we’re in Sydney we might actually attempt the 3.5 hour bridge climb.
We’re sitting in an Internet cafe on Castlereagh Street in the heart of Sydney at the moment. I’ve looked at my email (work email too, oh why did I do that to myself?!) and M is catching up on news next to me. I am completely in holiday mode - which I define as not knowing what day it is, and not having any particular plans except perhaps pondering the venue for our next meal. It’s very pleasant indeed.
We had dinner with Morgan, snail and Fiona last night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was great to catch up (and meet snail for the very first time) and the mole poblano with chicken, at the Chocolate Dog, was very very good, too. This was the first time I’ve eaten chocolate sauce - definitely worth trying. Actually, now I think of it, yesterday was quite a gastronomically interesting day - beginning with a custard bun I had for breakfast from the Chinese bakery around the corner from jl’s place, and the tiger I had for lunch. No, I didn’t have a striped feline - the tiger is a pie concoction from Hannah’s Pies, a beef pie topped with mushy peas, mashed spud and gravy. It was wonderful! I can’t upload the picture M took of it, but Helen’s blog post and accompanying photo will do for the time being, I think. (I think these pies would pass the food pornographer’s pie test, but that’s another blog post.) Snail, we made it to Gould’s and spent some time browsing but we were both a bit overwhelmed by the chaotic shelves, I think.
Apart from the food we also visited the Powerhouse Museum yesterday. They have a Great Wall of China exhibition on at the moment. It was well worth attending, very interesting.
Today was an Uber Shopping Day. I’ve spent over $200 on books. I heart Kinokuniya! Tomorrow, Tourist Day. A tour of the Opera House and a visit to the Taronga Zoo.
So here I am in Sydney. It’s been a busy two days - I’ve spent much of the time wandering around the city and China Town with jl, buying supplies for Chinese New Year (ang pow paper especially), indulging in my stationery fetish, and generally reacquainting myself with the place. M’s been busy working and having a generally very productive time. I think blogging’s going to be sparse this week because I seem to have developed an aversion to sitting at the computer and much prefer to Do Stuff rather than write about it. I’m jotting notes down from time to time, though, so I’ll have a record anyway.
I’m missing Baubles the Cat, although it definitely sounds like she is having a fine time under the tender care of Juji and Jay the catsitters.
