Paco at the party
It’s been an extremely busy weekend, with not one, but two parties - for my niece who has reached the grand old age of one, and an early birthday celebration for my dad. Lots of fun and associated festivities. The weather was perfect, especially given that we had barbecues on both days.
Photo shows Paco enjoying himself at the party on Saturday. He went from person to person, begging shamelessly, and most people couldn’t resist and gave him bites of food. He was extremely full and extremely tired by the end of the day.
As a result of all the partying I haven’t managed to do even a fraction of the things I could have done:
- Finish the paper(! I gave in and emailed to ask for an extension this morning…)
- Write email
- Do Dutch homework (I didn’t go to class this weekend due to the party but my Dutch teacher has thoughtfully - and I don’t mean this sarcastically! - emailed me the assignment for next week)
- Translate the piece of Japanese text for KR
- Try Chrome
- Try Ubiquity
- Play Spore
I’ve told myself that there is NO WAY I can even think of doing this free online course at the moment. It looks very interesting, though. (Via How to Save the World.)
Yesterday we had our annual Christmas party. My team has a nice Christmas tradition - instead of subjecting ourselves to the usual too-expensive Christmas fare (turkey/ham plus trimmings in a crowded restaurant) - we have a picnic down by the little lake on campus. We each bring a plate, and The Boss and the Deputy Uber Boss bring drinks (mainly alcoholic, with bottles of water).
This year we had quiche, chicken, cold meats, breads, prosciutto and melon, sandwiches, dips, cheeses, salads, fruit, plum cake and cinnamon loaf, washed down with a choice of white wine, Coopers’ Sparkling Ale, or water.
After eating we usually play bocce. I’m pretty bad at it - my technique consists of variations on chucking the ball - but it’s fun nonetheless.
This year is probably the last time we’ll have our picnic in this form, because from next year our little team is being amalgamated with a larger one. I don’t know if the Deputy Uber Boss will be providing us with beverages next year, either, as he’ll be officially retired at the end of the year.
There’ll be a few changes in the new year - which I won’t blog about just yet - which should make 2007 an interesting one, workwise.
Flickr friends, and family, you can look at more pictures if you’re so inclined.
I had a great time at the party! I even feel almost hungover this morning - must be the fact that Baubles the Cat kept trying to wake me up, starting from 3am all the virtual beer and vodka Paradoxa imbibed during the evening.
