Felineness

This picture makes me miss having a cat.

This is John Kirriemuir’s cat. John blogs at Silversprite. I also love his pictures of his island home, Berneray (John also maintains the island website) which is an island (population 123) in the Outer Hebrides, an archipelago off the west coast of Scotland.

Those cat pictures

I’m in the strange situation of having about three blog posts percolating in my head, with none in a publishable state right now, so I thought I’d comment on these strange, funny and almost scary cat pictures that have been doing the rounds.

I mean, who started it?? Whose cats are they? (You never get any information about the creators of these pictures when you receive them - I suppose that’s not the point.)

Monorail Cat actually reminds me of Baubles the Cat, who back in the day when she was young and agile and had stir-crazy fits sometimes used to run up doors and end up stuck on top for a while before she got the courage to jump down. Pity I don’t have any pictures of her doing that, though…

This one makes me giggle. Did they photoshop the kitten’s ears??

What did we ever do with ourselves before the Internet? We wouldn’t have spent hours creating and sending these pictures, looking at them, laughing at them, blogging them…

Timing

Impeccable! I emptied and cleaned Baubles the Cat’s tray, put fresh litter in it, and ticked that job off my list. Five minutes later, I detected the unmistakable odour of feline faeces wafting through the house. She’d used the tray - done a Number Two and very neatly covered
it up.

Still, reading such posts as this one: Towards a feminist poetics of catblogging, makes the whole business of living with a cat worthwhile, somehow. (I just wish I could write as well about Baubles’s antics!)
