Listening to: Justified and Ancient, KLF with Tammy Wynette. (I love this song - thanks, Mickey!)
Mood: Half flustered, half determined to relax. (I think they cancel each other out somewhat. What is the mood equivalent of white noise??)
Reason: This blog was down and I had no idea when it was going to be available again. Too much time spent fiddling with it and now I have to get ready for work. (Note to self: CW, you have NO CONTROL over Google/Blogger servers. None.) While this blog was down I decided to also fiddle with a table for another post (on lint) and discovered that I had forgotten the HTML for tables. Unfortunately now I have an unpleasant mantra playing in my head. Table row table data table data table row…
Argh.
Just came across a bad bug in Blogger Beta. Blogger Beta users, don’t use the Feed Page Element!

Last night when I tried to look at this page all I got was this message: “We’re sorry, but we were unable to complete your request.” I don’t know about you, but messages like that, well, they irk me. So unhelpful just stating the obvious while not giving any clues at all.
I left it last night hoping it would all be fixed when I got up, so you can imagine the heart-sinking feeling I got when I saw that it still wasn’t working this morning.
Thank goodness for other users - of course I was not the only Blogger Beta user with this problem, and I found a post on the Blogger Help Group from another Blogger Beta user who reported that when they removed any feeds they added to their blog, voilà ! everything worked fine again. So I took out the lint feed (which I added yesterday morning), and we’re cooking with gas once more.
I hope they fix this bug soon. I was really pleased to see the feature as it’s a very easy way of adding a feed to the page (you basically plug in the feed URL as a “page element”) but needless to say it should be avoided at the moment as it will make your blog inaccessible!
So far I have no complaints about Blogger Beta, apart from forgetting that I need to log in using my Google account rather than my old Blogger details.
Noted so far:
- Blogger Beta is much faster when it comes to publishing posts. Is this because not many people are using it yet? (Or are they?) Or is this due to a change in the tech? (I don’t know what they have done that’s different, behind-the-scenes. Must investigate.)
- Comment notifications are now threads in my email. (Old Blogger sent single email notifications.) Which is nice because it makes it easier to see what people have responded to in previous comments.
- Blogger Beta doesn’t seem to be working with Flickr - I can’t blog a picture from Flickr. I’m not sure if this is because I’ve merely gotten my account details all wrong. In a recent conversation with family, we were laughing over how no one remembers phone numbers anymore now they are all stored on phones and so forth. I realise that I don’t remember my various account details very well either…!
- RSS feeds (at least the ATOM one) seem to be taking a lot longer to update.
I can’t remember what else I was going to write! More as I come across it! So far I like it. It’s appealing because it feels new and shiny. I know, a very superficial reason for liking something…
