One of my colleagues brought me this lovely glass pen while she was in Europe recently.

“I thought of you when I saw it,” she said.

I was so overwhelmed I forgot to ask exactly where she bought it. (I think it could be Italian glass – Murano? – but I’m not certain. Update: My colleague has just confirmed that yes, she found the pen in Murano!)

It’s most pleasant to write with, ever so slightly toothy without being excessively scratchy. (Toothy is a “technical” term used by fountain pen enthusiasts to describe nibs that write “rough”; it is not usually a positive trait for a nib. You want a smooth nib.)

I actually handwrite quite a few things in the course of my day – notes, addresses on envelopes, signatures – but I don’t think I will be using this pen at work.

that is one beautiful pen, I would love to own something that pretty. Although I am quite sure that I would be terrified to use it just in case it broke!!

Yes, it was very nice of her. Even better, I have been thoroughly enjoying writing with it.
