Am I the only so-called ‘Old Skool’ Flickr user who’s a bit peeved that we need to change our accounts - merge them with Yahoo accounts - so that we can use Flickr? Am I just being over-fussy about this or do any other Old Skool Flickr users feel the same?
For those who don’t use Flickr, the photo sharing site is requiring all its users to switch their user accounts from the old Flickr accounts over to Yahoo. (Flickr was bought out by Yahoo some time ago.)
I don’t understand why I am annoyed by this, given that I will happily create accounts for any new web-based services I am interested in. What’s the difference here? Am I just being a curmudgeon?
I haven’t been keeping up very well with discussions in the blogosphere this past fortnight, but (thanks to lint) I know that apart from being Valentine’s Day, it’s also Library Lovers Day today!
I must admit that, despite being a librarian, I don’t use my local public library as much as I could. In fact I don’t remember the last time I dropped in…
According to their catalogue they have a few books on orchid varieties and cultivation - I think I might have to spend a morning there this weekend.
Update: John Quiggin loves libraries, too!

in gifts.
Everyone has been lovely and supportive this week.
My colleagues gave me this beautiful orchid. It’s growing in a little pot filled with bark. I hope I don’t kill it, seeing as I have never tried to care for an orchid before… This is an opportunity to learn more about these beautiful plants, I’m sure. All I know is that this is a dendrobium.

It’s sitting on my desk in my office at the moment, and adds a lot of vivid colour to my otherwise rather drab office. (Can you see the desktop photo of Baubles? I can’t bring myself to take it down, even if it gives me a pang everytime I see it at the moment.)
I always appreciate cards, too. Handwriting always seems to me to have that much more feeling to it. I’m sure this is just me, and is not to say I haven’t appreciated all the lovely messages I’ve received both here at this blog and via email. Thank you everyone!
